The Great Escape

I must have a recorded version of the song The Great Escape on my itunes because before it plays you hear a man’s voice talking about the song. I wish I could find it on youtube but here’s what he says…

“It is about being young and moving on and growing up. Not leaving it all behind but kinda feeling like you’re moving on to a new place. You’re ready to break free and get out but you’re going to do it up for one more night with your best friends."

I’m not sure I could express yesterday as well as that quote does, grammatically yes, but you know what I mean. Last night was our volleyball senior night. Hayley and I are the only seniors on the team this year. I can’t believe that we have been here for four years. It seems like only yesterday that we met and moved into Ohio hall as sweet mates. Both of us scared out of our minds to go to our first pre-season practice. Now we will never go through another preseason, we will never again run through the “blue crew cave” of high fives after a home game, or play on another competitive team after this season. As sad as that sounds I am so blessed to have had an opportunity to do all those things.

Sure I have learned a lot about volleyball over the years…but those aren’t the things I will take with me when I step off the court for the last time. I will remember the more important things that I have learned. A team is a place where you can feel at home. Other people may believe in you, but you have to believe in yourself too. Work hard when people are watching, and even harder when they aren’t. Encouragement is about the best gift you can give someone. Never underestimate the power of prayer.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
Colossians 3:23

To all my past teammates thank you for everything you have given me, it was a pleasure to play with you. To my team this year, thank you for everything you did for Hayley and I. You seriously made last night a day we will never forget. Thank you for all the encouragement and love you have shown me. I am truly so proud to call you all teammates and more importantly my sisters in Christ. I love you all! Skitterpop! Thank you to all my family and friends who have supported me over the years!  Lastly, to my mom…thank you for being my biggest fan!
A few more games to go…let’s go get some!
To the way Hayley and I felt yesterday and because I really like her I leave you with Famous in a Small Town by Miranda Lambert…
